Frame generation can be used with any of the AMD FSR upscaling quality modes, including “Quality” and “Performance”, so the ratio of upscaling image quality to performance can be configured to suit individual preferences. When combined with super resolution upscaling, this technology enables massive framerates in supported games, even at 4K using the highest game settings. You can learn more technical details about how FSR 3 frame generation works in our new in-depth blog on GPUOpen. FSR 3 frame generation uses an enhanced version of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) optical flow technology and temporal game data such as motion vectors to generate additional high-quality frames for a higher framerate in supported games, up to 2x 2. The two key updates in AMD FSR 3 are frame generation and the new “Native AA” quality mode.
